Day 2, Sunday, 5.17.09
Day 2 has come and gone, and it’s been another doozy. I left San Luis Obispo around 12:30 on my way up here (Livermore). I had decided earlier that day that I wanted to see San Fran since I’d be so close, so I mapped that into my plans. Said goodbye to my best friend then was on my way.

On the way I stopped in King City, where the beer flows like wine, because it was the only civilization for about 30 miles either way & I needed water. Have any of you seen that X-Files episode where Mulder & Scully go to that weird desert town where there ends up being a cult in which they’re all killing eachother and sacrificing people and whatnot? Well this felt kind of like that, and needless to say it creeped me out so I got out of there as quickly as I could.

I got into SF around 4/4:30, and parked in a parking garage on Market & 3rd. I took out my bike, put it back together, put my camera & laptop in my bag, and made my way out into the hustle & bustle of downtown SF. Not gonna lie, I was really intimidated. It’s kind of insane riding through the streets of such a huge and busy city, dodging unforgiving taxis and blind buses and wandering homeless and oblivious tourists. I pretty much rode from one end of Market down to the end, then all the way back again. It was fun but super tiring, I ended up riding for about an hour & a half then stopping at coffee bean to email y’all and check my email. I left around 6:45, taking the golden gate bridge exit North to hop onto the 580 to Livermore (I had to see it). From there it only took about an hour to get to Luke’s house (the guy I’m staying with, Natalie’s boyfriend). Driving into and out of San Francisco I listened to OK Computer all the way through, it worked (I hit No Surprises right as I crossed the bridge, pretty cool). I came to the realization that if Radiohead hadn’t ever written the song “Exit Music (For a Film)”, the band Muse would have never existed. Their entire being had to have been born out of that song - don’t get me wrong, I used to like them a lot and still respect what they do, but they for sure are more than just pulling from Radiohead. And I digress, sorry for all of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, just a little thing I thought of.
I plan to leave around 11 tomorrow, and I’ve got the longest drive yet ahead of me (should be a little over 6 hours to Medford). Pray that I don’t go too crazy from being on the same stretch of freeway the whole time, and that my body wouldn’t feel it too much in the end, my back’s already sensitive as is so all this driving is not the greatest for it. I’ll write tomorrow when I’m settled in in Or-a-gone. Goodnight!
